Ludwig Koch and the Music of Nature
31 March, 2011
On Thursday, 31 March, BBC Radio 4 repeats Sean Street's acclaimed profile of the legendary German Natural History sound recordist, Ludwig Koch. The programme includes the first known recording of birdsong, made by Koch in 1896, as well as an hilarious 'spoof' of Ludwig Koch made by Peter Sellers in the 1950s, when Koch's fame was at its height. This programme was a personal one for Street to make; as a child he grew up with the sounds recorded by Ludwig in his ears via post-war BBC radio. "Ludwig Koch and the Music of Nature goes out at 11.30am. It is also available via the BBC iplayer.
